Welcome! I was born into a family who loves travelling and was fortunate to have experienced our beautiful country’s icons and hidden gems. One of my first “international travel” memories was of watching my uncle’s slide show of their adventurous trip to South America. After school I became an au-pair and lived for 10 months in Germany. It was here that my love for travel was born and I fell in love with Europe. I then enrolled at the University of Pretoria and obtained a B.Com degree in Tourism Management. My interest and passion for the travel industry started in 1987 when I returned from a year’s backpacking in Europe.I attended Rapid Results and I completed my diploma in 1987 and I started work at Triumph Travel in Sea Point that same year.After 2 years I decided to travel once again and this time I worked and travelled in Europe and in the UK until the end of 1990.I returned and started work at Hylton Ross Travel in Camps Bay. Both Cathay Pacific and Singapore Airlines fly to Vietnam, so whats great about that, is that I can take advantage of a city stop in either Hong Kong or Singapore, depending on which airline I fly, and both of these cities have been on my bucket list for a long time so looking forward to eventually being able to tick one of them off. My wise father encouraged me to take a travelling sabbatical. I travelled through Africa with my brother, who was doing sub continental tours at that stage. With the sun rising over the Great Rift Valley, I realised that my heart irrevocably belongs to this mystical continent of ours. In that moment I understood the gentleness of the mothers of Africa, the laziness of time, the force of the Great Zambezi, the joy of a, “Jumbo” in friendly greeting, the humour of the locals over a Tusker, (the local beer of Tanzania), the devastation caused by famine and poverty, the beauty of a sunset and the shy smile of an umfaan.The United Kingdom was next on my list. For three years I worked on and off in Stratford upon Avon and used the rest of the time to explore the history and diversity of the cultural life in Europe. Back in South Africa I married my best friend, one magical night under the bright stars of a Free State sky. Fortunately for me, he also loves the great beyond and shares my passion for travel. We have two children and we use every opportunity that we can to take them with us, whether it is to Clocolan, Cape Town or Lesotho!I get my biggest kick out of sharing in the huge smiles of satisfied customers. I was destined to travel; Zimbabwean-born, South African bred, a British Citizen (I lived there for five years), honorary Australian (my entire family lives there), and I now reside in Knysna with my husband and daughter. Traveling from Luxembourg to Greece, to Holland and then Israel, by train, plane and ferry was an amazing experience, and a life-lesson that I will never forget.Much of my earlier travel was solo travel. I experienced 1 January 2000 in Ireland, flew to Paris for a weekend to celebrate my 40th, back to Paris a couple of years later to attend a creative workshop and in December 2018 travelled to and through parts of the Czech Republic visiting family with my husband. I was fortunate enough to travel to France twice in 2022, and to visit Milan for the first time. It might just slowly be trumping Paris as my favourite European city. Later this year I'll be on a river cruise through Germany and the Netherlands and spending Christmas in Amsterdam - something that I last did (and loved) in 1992!
