Hailed by many as one of the greatest road trips on Earth, South Africa’s Garden Route packs an astonishing variety of experiences into its scenic 300-kilometre stretch. Starting from the charming coastal town of Mossel Bay and winding through lush forests and picturesque sights, this legendary drive culminates in the serene beauty of Tsitsikamma National Park. Along the way, you'll discover everything from sun-kissed beaches and tranquil lagoons to award-winning wineries and incredible wildlife encounters. Whether you’re tasting world-class wine, watching whales in the wild, or exploring ancient forests, the Garden Route promises adventure at every turn. Whale Spotting in Hermanus Whale watching in Hermanus is an experience you won't want to miss, especially between June and December, when the Southern Right Whales migrate from Antarctica to the South African coast. Hermanus is regarded as one of the best whale-watching spots in the world, thanks to its location along the migratory path and the clear views from both land and sea. You can take a boat tour to get up close to these magnificent creatures, or simply relax along the Cliff Path in Hermanus for a panoramic view of the ocean as these gentle giants breach and play just offshore. The annual Whale Festival held here in September is also a must-visit, offering an educational and festive celebration of these majestic marine animals. Safari Drives in Addo Elephant National Park No trip to South Africa is complete without a safari, and the Garden Route makes it easy to experience one of the country’s best. Addo Elephant National Park, located near the end of the route, is the third-largest national park in South Africa and is home to over 600 elephants. But it’s not just elephants you’ll see on a game drive here - the park is also home to lion, buffalo, leopard, and the endangered black rhino. Addo's unique landscape, a mix of forest and bushveld, provides a beautiful backdrop to any wildlife adventure. If you're lucky, you might even spot a large elephant herd taking a drink at a watering hole, a moment that's sure to leave you in awe. A Coastal Gem on the Garden Route Plettenberg Bay, or "Plett" as it’s more commonly called, is an absolute must on your Garden Route journey. With its pristine beaches like Robberg and Lookout, it’s perfect for soaking up the sun, surfing, or just enjoying the coastal beauty. If you're feeling adventurous, head to Robberg Nature Reserve for breathtaking hikes and the chance to spot seals and dolphins along the way. Plus, if you're visiting between June and November, you might even get the chance to spot some whales! Something else to add to your itinerary is the Plett Wineries – the Plett Wine Route is a hidden gem, offering delicious wines with stunning ocean views. Exploring Wilderness and Knysna Midway through the Garden Route, you'll pass through the small towns of Wilderness and Knysna, both offering their own unique charm and plenty of outdoor activities. Wilderness, known for its vast stretch of sandy beaches and peaceful lagoons, is perfect for kayaking, paragliding, or simply relaxing by the water. Knysna, meanwhile, is famous for its stunning lagoon and the Knysna Heads, two towering sandstone cliffs that guard the entrance to the ocean. A boat cruise through the lagoon, followed by a visit to the Featherbed Nature Reserve, is a great way to appreciate Knysna’s natural beauty. Don’t forget to indulge in the town’s famous oysters! A Hidden Beach Gem Along the Garden Route Visiting Victoria Bay is a must on your journey along the Garden Route, a small, picturesque beach that offers a tranquil escape from the bustling towns along the route. Tucked between George and Wilderness, this hidden gem is a favourite among surfers, swimmers, and sunbathers alike. With its pristine sands, gentle waves, and cosy, horseshoe-shaped cove, Victoria Bay feels like a private paradise. Tsitsikamma National Park and the Storms River At the far end of the Garden Route, Tsitsikamma National Park is a nature lover's dream. This protected coastal reserve is renowned for its dramatic scenery - cliffs, lush forests, and the powerful Storms River all contribute to its breathtaking landscape. Whether you prefer hiking, zip-lining, or even kayaking through narrow gorges, the park offers something for everyone. The Otter Trail, one of South Africa’s most famous hikes, starts here, taking you along the rugged coastline with stunning views at every turn. The Storms River Suspension Bridge is another must-see, providing panoramic views as it swings over the churning waters below. The Garden Route promises a road trip like no other, brimming with diverse experiences that will leave you mesmerised. From whale watching in Hermanus and indulging in local wines along the way to immersing yourself in the wild beauty of Tsitsikamma, every stop offers something unique and unforgettable. So, pack your bags, hit the road, and prepare to embark on one of the world’s most spectacular journeys!

Introduction: Jet lag can turn a dream vacation into a nightmare, leaving you exhausted and disoriented when you should be enjoying your trip. But fear not, as there are effective strategies to combat jet lag and ensure it doesn't ruin your holiday. By following these steps, you can bid farewell to jet lag and embrace your travels with energy and enthusiasm. Exercise Before Your Flight: One common mistake travelers make is neglecting their regular exercise routine in the hectic lead-up to a trip. However, research shows that breaking a sweat before a long journey can significantly improve sleep quality, which is crucial for staying alert in a new environment. Make time for exercise before your flight to set a positive foundation for your journey. Stay Hydrated: Proper hydration is key to fighting jet lag. It is recommends drinking three glasses of warm water before boarding your flight and then sipping on warm water or herbal ginger tea with lemon every hour during the flight. Avoid cold drinks and ice, as they can exacerbate dehydration. Carrying a refillable water bottle encourages you to stay hydrated and provides a reason to stretch your legs regularly. Eat Light: Digestion tends to slow down during extended periods of inactivity. To keep your digestive system functioning smoothly, take a ginger tablet before and after your flight, especially if you're headed to a colder destination. When it comes to in-flight meals, opt for warm, moist foods and steer clear of bread, crackers, cold desserts, soft drinks, alcohol, and coffee to prevent "jet bloat." Sleep Smart: Adjusting your sleep schedule to match your destination's time zone is crucial. Set your watch to the destination's time zone and meditate every two hours for 30 to 60 minutes. Sleep only during the hours corresponding to your destination's nighttime. Take advantage of features like dimmable lighting in aircraft cabins or apps like Timeshifter and Entrain to help you determine the best time to sleep. Minimize screen time to avoid disrupting your circadian rhythm and melatonin secretion, both of which impact sleep quality. Pack Your Carry-On Carefully: Create a comfortable sleep environment on the plane. Bring a cozy wrap if you get chilly, noise-cancelling headphones to block out cabin noise, and a neck pillow that suits your preferred sleeping position. The more comfortable your space, the more restful your in-flight sleep will be. Stretch Regularly: Combat the stiffness and discomfort of long flights by stretching every few hours. Simple postures like leaning forward and allowing your head and neck to relax can improve blood circulation to the brain and relieve lower back tension. Post-Flight Routine: Upon arrival at your destination, adopt a post-flight routine to minimize jet lag. Start with a warm bath or shower and moisturize your skin, which may be parched from the dry cabin air. Meditate to relax and reset your body's internal clock. Stay well-hydrated by doubling your usual water intake. Avoid napping, even if you're exhausted, and instead, sit upright to meditate for short periods. Finally, skip alcohol and opt for an early night's rest, as this combination of strategies promises to minimize or eliminate jet lag. Conclusion: Jet lag may be a common traveler's woe, but it's not insurmountable. By incorporating these practical tips into your travel routine, you can minimize the effects of jet lag and make the most of your journey. With proper preparation, smart choices, and a bit of self-care, you'll arrive at your destination refreshed and ready to embrace your adventure.

Sustainable travel is about making responsible choices when we travel that not only help to protect the environment but also support the local communities we visit. In this blog post, we'll explore what sustainable travel is, why it's important, and how we can all contribute to a more sustainable future for travel. What is Sustainable Travel? Sustainable travel is a type of tourism that seeks to minimize the negative impact of travel on the environment and local communities, while also providing social and economic benefits. Sustainable travel aims to preserve natural and cultural resources, protect the environment, and support the local economy and communities. It involves making responsible choices and being conscious of the environmental, social, and economic impact of our travel decisions. Sustainable travel can take many forms, such as choosing eco-friendly accommodations, using public transportation, reducing plastic use, supporting local businesses, and respecting local customs and traditions. It's about making choices that benefit both the environment and the local communities we visit, while still allowing us to enjoy the beauty and diversity of the world. By practicing sustainable travel, we can help to minimize the negative impact of tourism on the environment, preserve natural and cultural heritage, and create more meaningful connections with the places we visit. It also promotes responsible tourism practices and encourages travel companies to operate in a more sustainable manner. As a Travel Counsellor I am fully behind Substainable Travel for many reasons :) 1. Protecting the environment: Sustainable travel is important for protecting the environment and preserving natural resources. By making responsible travel choices, we can help reduce carbon emissions, minimize waste, and protect natural habitats. 2. Supporting local communities: Sustainable travel is also about supporting local communities and economies. By choosing eco-friendly accommodations, buying local products, and supporting local businesses, we can help create jobs and contribute to the local economy. 3. Preserving cultural heritage: Sustainable travel aims to preserve cultural heritage and promote respect for local customs and traditions. By learning about the history and culture of the places we visit, we can help preserve local heritage and promote cultural exchange. 4. Creating more meaningful travel experiences: Sustainable travel can also create more meaningful and authentic travel experiences. By connecting with local communities and cultures, we can gain a deeper understanding and appreciation for the places we visit. 5. Contributing to a more sustainable future: Finally, sustainable travel is important for creating a more sustainable future for travel. Choose eco-friendly accommodations: Look for accommodations that prioritize sustainability, such as hotels with eco-certifications, solar power, or water-saving initiatives. You can also consider staying in eco-lodges, guesthouses, or homestays that support local communities and minimize the impact on the environment. 2. Use public transportation: Instead of renting a car or taking taxis, consider using public transportation, such as buses, trains, or bicycles. This can help reduce carbon emissions and minimize traffic congestion. 3. Reduce plastic use: Bring a reusable water bottle, coffee cup, and tote bag with you on your travels. Avoid using single-use plastic items, such as straws, plastic bags, and disposable cutlery. Instead, opt for reusable or biodegradable alternatives. 4. Support local businesses: Buy local products and support local businesses, such as restaurants, shops, and markets. This can help create jobs and support the local economy. 5. Travel insurance is an essential aspect of any trip, whether it is a domestic or international one. It provides protection and peace of mind by covering unexpected and costly events that can occur during a trip. In this blog post, I will explore why taking travel insurance is crucial and the benefits it offers. Medical Emergencies Medical emergencies can occur anytime, and anywhere and are expensive in a foreign country. With travel insurance, you can get coverage for medical expenses, including hospitalization, emergency medical evacuation, and repatriation of remains. This coverage can provide you with financial security and access to quality medical care, which can make a significant difference in a medical emergency. Trip Cancellation or Interruption Travel plans can be disrupted for various reasons, such as natural disasters, terrorism, or personal emergencies. In such cases, travel insurance can reimburse you for the expenses incurred due to the cancellation or interruption of your trip. This can include non-refundable expenses, such as airfare, hotel bookings, and tour packages, providing you with financial protection and allowing you to plan your next trip without worrying about financial loss. Lost or Stolen Luggage Lost or stolen luggage is a common problem faced by travelers, and can be frustrating and expensive to deal with. Travel insurance offers coverage for lost, stolen, or damaged bags, and includes compensation for lost items, baggage delay, or theft. Insurance can help you recover from the loss and continue your trip without a significant financial burden. Personal Liability Traveling to a new place involves interacting with new people and exploring new surroundings, which can also involve unexpected accidents or incidents. The personal liability coverage offered by travel insurance can protect legal expenses and damages incurred due to accidental injury or property damage caused to others during your trip. Assistance Services Many travel insurance policies offer assistance services such as 24/7 emergency medical assistance, travel and concierge services, and travel assistance for lost passports or travel documents. These services can be invaluable during a trip, especially in unfamiliar places, and can provide the necessary support and guidance to navigate any unexpected situation. In conclusion, travel insurance is a necessity, providing financial protection and peace of mind. It is essential to carefully read and understand the terms and conditions of your travel insurance policy to ensure that it meets your specific needs and requirements. Taking travel insurance can offer protection and security during your travels, allowing you to enjoy your trip without worrying about any unexpected expenses or incidents.

Heaven is a place on earth... One place is Morgan Bay. It is a little slice of heaven… Situated about 1 hour and 10 minutes from East London and it has a little bit of everything for everyone… With an endless stretch of beach and awe-inspiring “Krans” which is great for sundowners after a day of beaching and exploring. If you are just looking at chillaxing, hiking, fishing, exploring, eating, Bird Watching or are an adrenaline junky then Morgan Bay has it all. There are 2 hotels in Morgan Bay… The Mitford Hotel and the Morgan Bay Hotel. Both are situated on the Seafront, and there are also Guest Houses, Bed and Breakfasts, Backpackers and Camping sites. I have been going to Morgan Bay for about 8 years now and each time I discover more about this beautiful seaside town. *** Contact me should you want to book an unforgettable holiday for the whole family ***

I recently went to The Northcliff Boutique Hotel for a breakfast meeting. This hotel is set on the Northcliff Hill. I was blown away by the mesmerizing views of Northern Johannesburg and the surrounds. If you are looking for an intimate venue for a business lunch or private function, then The Northcliff Boutique Hotel could be the place for you. They have an amazing Restaurant that can catering for any function that will be truly memorable for your guests. They have a Bar / Lounge area and pool deck where your guests can grab a refreshing beverage as well as to take in the most amazing sunset you will see in the city. The hotel rooms are true luxury and are perfect for a weekend away. Guests will have all the amenities in a room that their hearts desire. The staff are so amazing and friendly. They made me feel like I was a regular and value guest. They are super proud of this gem of a hotel and then of course of the view. If you would like any more info, then please speak to me.
