Location, Location, Location and Views Views Views! My family and I enjoyed 3 wonderful nights at this beautiful Brenton Beach apartment in Knysna during the March school holidays! Wish we could have stayed longer… Located 500m from Brenton Beach, restaurants, and a small kiosk shop – that is how I remember beach holidays as a kid; walking with my boogie board, towel and neon sunglasses down to the beach for a day of sun & fun! My daughter loved the outdoor shower in the drive way – perfect for removing all traces of the beach before heading upstairs. The apartment has 3 bedrooms; A main room with en suite, balcony and sea views 1 twin room & 1 double room, both open onto a large balcony and share a bathroom The front balcony offers spectacular ocean & sunset views – the perfect place to sit and unwind after a day on the beach, to enjoy sundowners, or a meal together. The lounge is comfortable, large sliding doors open onto the front balcony, and offers a TV (including DSTV) as well as WIFI. The open plan Lounge, indoor dining & kitchen area are an entertainers dream and perfect for the family / friends who are on holiday together as they can share in all the fun no matter which room you are in! The kitchen is fully equipped with an oven, gas & electric stove tops, microwave, kettle, Nespresso coffee machine, coffee plunger, large fridge / freezer, Air fryer, filtered water system, as well as every imaginable crockery and cutlery item you may need during your stay. The Kitchen also offers a scullery area including a double sink, dishwasher, washing machine, and opens onto the back of the property where there is a washing line, weber braai, brick braai (including spotlight which my husband loved!) and an outdoor dining area under a beautiful bougainvillea pergola. If you are looking for a true break away from the hustle and bustle of a busy life, and to create some distance between you and your electronics – then Tsitsikamma Lodge & Spa is the place for you! It is perfect for that romantic weekend away, or to re-connect with your family, friends or loved ones. Each wooden chalet has an outdoor braai area, there are 4 cabin types to choose from and the rate includes a delicious Breakfast buffet. They do offer dinner (at an additional charge), as well as braai wood & meat packs (order in advance). My family and I loved our weekend here – we felt like we were living in a cabin in the woods with all the beautiful tree’s around us, and the view of the mountains beyond. We stayed in the Garden Cabin, which had tea & coffee making facilities, a bar fridge, TV, as well as an upstairs loft area (which my daughter loved! Her own secret space away from the us!) and can sleep up to 5 guests comfortably. The bathroom had a luxurious spa bath which we all enjoyed after a lovely walk (called the Strip Tease) which had various pools to swim in along the way – a definite must! We enjoyed a delicious buffet for dinner, and a yummy breakfast the next morning – both served in the warm & welcoming wooden restaurant which offered a fire place and great bar area too. The Old Mill Lodge is situated on a family run working Ostrich farm, and is the perfect, relaxed place for families, extended families, or friends travelling together. They are even pet friendly! Located near the Cango Caves right next to a rushing river, with lush green grounds and hills surrounding the property. They offer a variety of different accommodation types to suit every budget, or guests needs. We stayed in a luxury safari tent, which overlooked the river and the ostrich farm. There was a communal pool a few steps away, as well as a lovely restaurant, kids play area, and small farmyard with guinea pigs, springbok, and mini ponies. All the accommodation types include braai facilities, however, the restaurant serves delicious meals and a yummy breakfast! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and can highly recommend Old Mill Lodge, Oudtshoorn! Thank you for the great memories!

Just over 2 hours drive from Cape Town, this fabulous Big 5 Game Reserve is a must visit! As you arrive you are welcomed with a refreshing drink by friendly staff, then get to enjoy a delicious buffet lunch, while enjoying the breathtaking view of the bush beyond the pool. Our room was large, light and had the best views of the bush! The supervised Kids club was fun, with a giant chess board, putt putt, and a safari tent club house. My husband got to enjoy the Spa – a lovely calm, serene sanctuary to revive and restore your mind, body & soul! At 4pm we had our first game drive and saw so many beautiful animals, and had a pit stop at the local “watering hole” in the middle of the bush where we could all get out, marvel at the landscape around us, have a drink and meet new people. Dinner was a gastronomic delight and we got to enjoy some star gazing & toasted marshmallows afterwards – the perfect way to end a great day. The 2nd game drive was at 7am the next morning – I love early mornings in the bush & all the animals were out and about – unforgettable! Aquila really know how to entertain, surprise and delight – Thank you for the family memories!

This is one of my favourite hotels and have stayed here on 3 different occasions – its definitely a place you can return to again, and again! We had a lovely courtyard family room, on the ground floor, right in front of the pool – the perfect place to laze at & catch up with the family. The rooms are spacious, elegant & offer all the mod cons you could ask for. They also offer a free bottle of wine in the room upon arrival, as well as a free wine tasting. While you enjoy your wine tasting, they have thoughtfully included a grape juice and wine gum tasting for the kiddos – such fun! My daughter enjoyed the kids club and even got to bake some biscuits – Yum! The Property has so much to offer; with the various swimming pools, Elemental garden, vegetable garden, Eagle Encounters, Segway Tours, use of adult & children bicycles to explore the vast working farm, fantastic eateries, some of which offer picnic baskets, beautiful art abounds and the tasting room is bright & colourful. Breakfast was a highlight, with a banquet fit for Royalty, in a lovely sunlit room with a beautiful outdoor space. The staff were AMAZING and truly made our stay even more memorable than the previous trips – Thank you Spier!

De Zalze Lodge - immersed in the Cape Winelands, surrounded by vineyards and beautiful mountains in the distance – absolutely breathtaking! The rooms (which were all named after wine variants) were cozy, with a picturesque balcony, decent sized bathroom, bar fridge, as well as a tea & coffee station. The beautiful pool, with views over the golf course and mountains beyond, was a short walk from our room, and a welcome refresh after hot summer days out & about. The restaurant and wine tasting room, is located a short stroll away, at Kleine Zalze – a definite must do on your list next time you are in Stellenbosch! During our stay, we visited a kid’s paradise, called The Carnival, at Weltevreden – such a fun morning for our daughter who got to play in the expansive fun park & make her own pizza, while we enjoyed a wine tasting & some relaxation under the tree’s - within view of Carnival of course – a great outing for the whole family! De Zalze Lodge was truly a wonderful, luxurious stay, & centrally located within Stellenbosch – close to many restaurants, the city centre, various wine farms, markets, as well as Kids & Family activities. Only 4.5 hours drive from Knysna, within 30 minutes of the winelands, and approx. 30 minutes into Cape Town - location, location, location. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and can highly recommend it for family vacations, weekends away or a romantic getaway. Located in the heart of the man-made harbour – our 2 bedroom apartment had harbour and sea views, and we enjoyed a glorious sunset from our balcony. The apartment also had a modern bathroom, spacious lounge area, bar fridge, tea & coffee station – perfect for long stay rentals. The pool is large – great for a dip, or to swim some lengths. My daughter and I also visited the gym during our stay – it has all you need for a full body work out, and stunning views of the water to help keep you motivated. There is an in-house restaurant that serves meals & drinks throughout the day, as well as some alternative restaurant options within the harbour area, so you don’t even need to get into your car to go out for dinner – just a short, scenic stroll. Are you looking for a true Knysna experience? Well why not be the captain of your own holiday on a Houseboat! My family & I had the best weekend aboard the “Dreamer” recently… After a detailed info briefing, mini skippers’ course, and a test run on the boat, we were given the green light and set sail on the lagoon! The sun was shining & the water was crystal clear – so we decided to head to a spot where we could swim, then laze on the roof of the boat to dry off, chat, play games & read. It was wonderful to explore the lagoon, visit little beaches & watch the seals play – no electronics, no deadlines, no demands – just reconnecting with loved ones, relaxing & fun under the Knysna sun! We hired a gas braai along with the boat, so in true South African style – we had a braai for dinner! The Houseboat comes fully equipped with all the comforts of home; cutlery, crockery, glasses, gas oven, bedding (sleeps up to 5 people), shower & toilet - just bring your own towels, food & drink. If you are looking for a fun day out for the whole family, Redberry Farm near George Airport is the place to be! I took my daughter and her friend for an outing, and thoroughly enjoyed the Saturday morning atmosphere. First, we had to have something to eat at the café, who make the best strawberry smoothies and milkshakes! Once our energy levels were up, they each took turns to race around the go cart track, feed the bunnies, ride the train (it was so nice they did it twice!) and finally – pick our very own strawberries! What fun hunting for the juicy red strawberries and thinking up all the wonderful & yummy things we would make with them when we got home..* While they had a last play on the children’s play area (complete with an old golf cart, tractor, 4 wheeler, climbing frame & swings), I wandered around the large shop admiring all the strawberry and blueberry products, wines and beautiful goods on offer – the perfect way to spend a sunny day out on the Garden Route! *When we got home, we cleaned, cut and froze the strawberries and used them to make delicious ice lollies, by combining frozen pineapple and coconut milk – YUMMO!

My family & I were blessed enough to enjoy a fantastic night’s stay at De Denne Country Guest House in Oudtshoorn over Father’s Day weekend. Steeped in charm & history (the main house was built in 1907, and has housed 5 generations of the Keller family, until they opened their beautiful farm & home to the public when they turned it into a Guest House). Located halfway between Cape Town & PE, 10 minutes from Oudtshoorn city centre, approx 50km from Calitzdorp, a short drive away from the famous Cango Caves, & right next door to the Highgate Ostrich Farm – location location location as they say! The Guest House offers a variety of Klein Karoo Day Tours, bookable at reception. Highgate Ostrich Farm is a must see! Ben (our tour guide) was fantastic! We stood on Ostrich eggs (which never broke!), fed ostriches & donkeys, & learnt all about the fascinating Ostrich, and how the Farm was run. At De Denne, we stayed in one of the newly built rooms to the left of the main house, with majestic views over the pool and Klein Karoo beyond. On a clear night, the star gazing is breath taking – the perfect place to recharge & reconnect with family & friends. Serenity Bliss SPA offers a wide variety of treatments for the ultimate in tranquil relaxation. The restaurant is warm & cosy (with very delicious meals!), the rooms are stunning, and the wide-open spaces that surround you are a wonderful escape from the hustle & bustle of our busy lives! De Denne also have 2 resident Ostriches (Cadbury & Popcorn) that you can feed & admire – they were real characters! But the cherry on top were the staff – they are all warm, kind, friendly & made our stay a magical one!

Located in George close to the airport, Full of History, luxury & sport! I am happy to report.. This majestic hotel will not come up short! My family & I were privileged to experience the wonder of Fancourt in May 2020, and more recently in December 2022 - absolute luxury with the majestic Outeniqua mountains as a back drop. The rooms are elegantly furnished, and the gorgeous grounds are covered in giant old oak tree's - transporting you back to another era in time! The kids club was excellent - my daughter didn’t want to leave! Which allowed my hubby & I some chill time in the beautiful Spa.. the staff are brilliant & the food was delicious! What a super cool place to stay - closer to the beach you cannot be... My family and I were lucky enough to enjoy an awesome night's stay at The Bungalow in November 2020. Located right on Hobie beach with breath-taking views of the ocean, a fun pool, a cocktail viewing deck, the best sushi I have ever tasted, Fun vibe, such amazing staff, delicious food served with a smile & they pride themselves on fast & friendly service! My family & I were so excited for our MSC Cruise from Cape Town, and thank goodness we had perfect weather – no rough seas! As we arrived at the Passenger Cruise Terminal, the magnificent MSC Orchestra came into view - in all its massive glory! A holiday resort on water - WOW! We had a 3-berth Ocean view cabin equipped with everything we needed. Falling asleep on the ship was a real treat; the gentle sway lulled us all into happy dreams. During the day, there was a constant stream of fun MSC-organized activities around the ship. My daughter loved the Kids Club and all the fun activities they arranged - she was living her best life! My hubby enjoyed the Thermal Spa area, and I got to chill on a sun lounger by the pool with a good book - bliss! The evening entertainment was the highlight of our trip; it started with a stroll along the upper deck to enjoy the sunset over the vast ocean, followed by a carnival-style show and a family disco, which was a great opportunity to get our boogie on and try to work off some of the lovely food we’ve enjoyed onboard! The food was a culinary delight and never ended! Breakfast flowed into lunch, which flowed into dinner, which culminated in midnight snacking - come hungry! The food is all freshly prepared, arranged beautifully, and tastes delicious. They even cater to kids and have a special section for them in the buffet with all their faves. If you want a fun, stress-free, relaxing holiday with something for everyone to enjoy, a MSC Cruise is just for you!

Every time I visit Cape Town, I discover new things – it’s a magical experience and a city that you could never tire of! This time, we had AMAZING weather (YAY!) so my family and I grabbed the sunny days with both hands and: Took a trip down a historical lane & fed the squirrels in the Company Gardens, wandered through the Green Market Square’s vibrant & colourful stalls, were wowed by the beauty of Bokaap (and had to stop for a samoosa or 3!), braved the freezing waters of the breathtaking Llandudno beach, found a hidden cave at Chapmans Peak, jumped aboard a locals boat at Hout Bay (and enjoyed some famous Fish & Chips), visited the Muizenburg huts, and enjoyed the beautiful night lights from Signal Hill. Cape Town – Thank you! We had the best time.

My family & I recently enjoyed a classy stay at the Southern Sun Cullinan in Cape Town before our MSC Cruise. From the moment you walk through the large revolving door, you are transported into a regal world of high volume windows, marble, a welcome drinks station, and a smiling porter to assist you with your luggage. Our room was located on the top floor (room 1503) and had the most wonderful views of the mountain, the city and harbor. The beds were heavenly and the breakfast the following morning was fit for a King, a Queen & a little Princess :) They also offer a free shuttle to the Waterfront throughout the day! My family and I had an amazing stay at The Village Lodge, Botlierskop Private Game Reserve over the weekend! We all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, especially the game drive, where we had close encounters with a mama cheetah & her 3 cubs! Not to mention, elephant, giraffe, rhino, buffalo, various species of buck, including the rare black impala! All the staff at The Village Lodge were so friendly, accommodating and made our stay even more special. The food was delicious! The Chef really knows their stuff and it was inspiring to see the home grown produce from the vibrant herb and veg garden utilized in their dishes. This is the way forward, not only for holiday accommodation and restaurants, but for homeowners too. The Village Lodge caters for families and children, as well as couples. They offer a fenced in pool, playground, and a fun-looking Kids Program, including horse rides - an absolute highlight for my daughter! It was a great seeing the different accommodation types at both the Tented Camp (more luxurious, perfect for honeymooners and couples, however, they do cater for families too) and The Village Lodge. For Father's Day, my daughter and I took my husband camping for the night at an awesome Camp Spot along the Garden Route. Location! Location! Location! Closer to the sea, you cannot be. We pitched our tent at the water's edge. We were serenaded by the waves, while we were entertained by surfers, and dolphins and we were even lucky enough to see a whale! We explored the rock pools and took a short 5-minute walk along the beach, to the local restaurant & shop. This is the perfect place for a fun, safe, family vacation! Pack away the electronic devices, pack in the walking shoes, boogie boards, bicycles, books, and snorkelling gear and enjoy the beautiful outdoors! The Camping / Caravan Park is very neat. My family and I enjoyed a fantastic night away at Coral Cottages which is situated between Plett & Knysna. We went there in March. It's the perfect weekend getaway for the family as you get free access to the Adventure Land Water Park which is located next door. It was so much fun! The Cottages are nestled, between the trees with beautifully landscaped gardens surrounding them. I felt like I was back in the UK, staying in a quaint, beautiful village. Each self-catering cottage offers all the amenities that one needs to enjoy a comfortable stay (privacy, outdoor braai facilities incl. wood, crockery, cutlery, stove, microwave, DSTV, lounge area, separate bedroom, and modern bathroom). Plus, there is a pool & playground on-site to keep the kiddos on the go to ensure a great nights sleep! The service is awesome and I can highly recommend Coral Cottages. Part of the Grand Simbavati Collection – Fynbos on Sea near Sedgefield opened in November 2021. My family and I had the most amazing night stay celebrating my Husband’s birthday. The sweeping 360-degree views of the mountains, veld, lake, lagoon and sea from the pool area and the Lodge is breathtaking! You feel like you are on top of the world. The nine-room lodge and self-contained cottage are surrounded by a 600-hectare pristine fynbos reserve where game such as eland, zebra, bushbuck and waterbuck roam. We were lucky enough to see the Zebra from our room and enjoyed watching them drink at their watering hole whilst having breakfast. The pool is heated and perfect for doing laps (especially for those who like to exercise on holiday) whilst enjoying the views. The Lodge includes breakfast & dinner – tasty gourmet delights from a great chef! The sunrise over the ocean was a highlight and a beautiful way to start the day. One of the best Boutique Hotels I have ever stayed at – it is steeped in history. A stay at Barrington’s Plett offers a unique experience that you will never forget. It is home to the first Craft Brewery in Plett and has a fabulous Kitchen Garden where they grow their herbs & vegetables resulting in fresh & tasty meals no matter what you order! There is also a Deli & Bakery where they sell their freshly baked goods – which smell heavenly! Dutton’s Cove – Herold’s Bay (3 July) What an absolute GEM of a place! Dutton Cove is located south of George, nestled on the hillside in Herolds Bay overlooking the ocean. We loved our stay! Correen was an amazing host – she was friendly, professional, and very accommodating. The rooms all have sea views with a crisp & fresh beach décor and there is an outdoor patio as well as a small lounge area. The food at Dutton Cove Restaurant was a highlight! It has a great atmosphere with lovely décor. There is a kids play area which offers spectacular views over the ocean and the best food that we had eaten all holiday! The beach is just a 5 minutes drive away and there are also some fantastic ocean cliff walks nearby.. Agulhas Country Lodge (2 July) My family and I had such a great night’s stay at the Agulhas Country Lodge in Cape Agulhas. It is a slice of unspoilt paradise! We stayed in a family room which has an outdoor balcony overlooking the beautiful ocean. The Lodge is a family run business and the love they have invested into this place can be felt! The staff are very accommodating and friendly. We thoroughly enjoyed sitting by the fire in the games room after dinner whilst playing board games – this created special family moments! Cape Agulhas is a must see and should be added to everyone’s bucket list! We visited the most southern tip of Africa where the Atlantic and Indian Ocean's meet and did the coastal walks and saw a famous Shipwreck – This is Nature at its finest! Place on the Bay – Camps Bay (29 June – 2 July) My family and I were lucky enough to enjoy 3 marvellous nights right in the heart of the Camps Bay strip, across the road from the world-famous Camps Bay Beach! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Place on the Bay – it has a Santorini vibe and I was transported back to some Greece memories and to some fabulous carefree travel memories! We stayed in a 2 bedroom duplex style apartment which had lovely sea views. There was an easy access pool, they offered a daily cleaning service and it was fully equipped with all the mod cons one could wish for! 2 bedrooms and 1 bathroom upstairs – it was bliss falling asleep to the sound of the ocean. Downstairs had another bathroom with a shower, an open plan kitchen, dining and lounge area as well as an outdoor patio – spacious & comfortable. The first time I stayed at Spier was for my first ever Travel Counsellors conference in 2013. We all had a great time. Ever since then, I have wanted to go back to enjoy Spier with my family. Unfortunately, the night before we were due to arrive at Spier, SA was moved to restricted Level 4 lockdown. This meant no restaurant dining, no onsite consumption, nor was the sale of alcohol was permitted. Our dreams of wine tasting, soup and wine pairing, wine by the fireplace, Spier’s gourmet dining plus, the wine gum tasting for my little one were all going to be just that – a dream! And the Cape had been hit by a massive storm, so it was pouring with rain! Nevertheless, we made the most of our special time at Spier and what better place to be in lockdown than in a beautiful, large, comfortable Spier room, with a warm & comforting fireplace, big windows to let the light shine in! My daughter loved the kids club and baked us some yummy cookies! The staff were amazing, upbeat, positive and eager to help in any way, with a large smile! The in-room dining was done in style and I commend them on transporting fabulous food, in the rain, still intact! We also enjoyed our rainy golf cart ride to the Bird encounter – what a fabulous experience. It is a definite must. My family & I were privileged enough to spend an unforgettable night at Under Milkwood in Knysna over Father's Day weekend. My family and I were recently lucky enough to enjoy a night in Hermanus at the Whale Coast Hotel. We stayed in a luxurious duplex style apartment. It was fully-equipped with all the modern facilities that one could wish for! It had 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms upstairs with the most amazing beds – we felt like we were sleeping on a cloud. Downstairs it had an open plan kitchen, dining and lounge area – it is spacious & comfortable. The Whale Coast Hotel is centrally located right in a Mall and as my daughter stated “I can't believe I am staying in a shopping centre!” – but oddly it works and it was one of our favourite stays on our holiday! The next morning we enjoyed a fabulous full English breakfast in their allocated dining area. This was the perfect way to start the day. Later we went out and about and explored all the wonders that Hermanus holds. Hermanus is also one of the best Whale watching places in the world. You can get great sightings of these majestic creates from land. Hermanus has been in my families blood for generations. My grandparents had a holiday home right on Voelklip Beach. This is located right next to Whale Coast Hotel’s sister property: Hermanus Beachfront hotel, which also looks like a great place to stay!) so it was a wonderful trip down family history lane too. Ilita Lodge – Great Brak My family & I spent a wonderful night at Ilita Lodge located in Great Brak recently. We stayed in a 2-bedroom apartment with breathtaking views over Great Brak towards Mosselbay. The apartment was fully equipped, clean, comfortable and included awesome braai facilities! It is the perfect place to unwind & relax with the family as you sit by the fire and admire the beautiful scenery around you. They also offer walking trails, a kids play area, gym facilities and an outdoor pool. The next morning we had a yummy breakfast on the pool deck overlooking the sea – this is the best way to start the day! We started our tropical adventure by boat and were transported over turquoise waters until we reached our island getaway for the next few days; Palm Bay, located on the Whitsundays islands just off the Australian mainland. The smell of the fresh sea air and the warm sun started peeling away the layers of our city mind and body getting us ready for pure relaxation & bliss! As we approached Palm Cove it was the picture of a Palm tree, bungalow and a white sandy beach paradise! Once the boat stopped on the shore we could not jump into the water fast enough and sink our toes into that magical sand.. we had arrived! Our days were spent swimming, snorkelling, reading, reflecting, connecting, afternoon naps & relaxing in the hammock on our beachfront bungalow deck watching yet another breathtaking sunset. . Kwandwe Private Game Reserve - luxury at its best! If you would like to treat yourself, your loved one or your family to a Big 5 experience like no other then this is the place to go! It was a cold winters morning in the middle of July but we were greeted with warm smiles and hot chocolate. Our Safari vehicle was on standby to take us to our luxury Bush villa giving us the opportunity of enjoying the fresh morning air and the soul restoring smell of the veld. The Villas are all positioned perfectly to make you feel like you are the only ones in the bush with a wide wooden deck overlooking the grasslands, a small plunge pool, outdoor shower and lounger chairs to enjoy a lovely glass of wine or cup of tea. The Villa offers under-floor heating, a lounge area with comfortable furniture to sit and read a book while looking out of the large window into the veld beyond. This room flows into the large main bedroom with panoramic views of the bush from your super king size bed - amazing! The bathroom offers the ultimate in luxury with a big free standing tub as well as an indoor "outdoor" shower (surrounded by glass with a high walled garden on the other side so you feel like you are showering outside). Our early morning Game Drive was breath taking as we watched 3 lionesses about to attack a buck, looked on in awe as a herd of elephants crossed the road in front of us - morning rush hour! :) We saw 4 of the Big 5, unfortunately the elusive Leopard was not in the mood to reveal itself on that crisp morning. What an unforgettable experience! The dining area was cozy and the suppers were a happy, magical affair with much chatter from the days adventures. Don't just dream it - Live it!
